Disclosures on social investment

How do Australia's top 50 public-listed companies measure up?

25 Mar 2010

ACCA Australia has published new research into the social investment reporting disclosures of Australia's top 50 public-listed companies (ASX50).

Entitled Disclosures on Social Investment, the report is the third in a second trilogy of research projects carried out in collaboration with the Net Balance Foundation Ltd, and found that the ASX50 companies are generally effective in recognising the strategic importance of social investment (average score 41%) and disclosing how they measure and report on it (average score 48%).

However, the research found that these companies often fall short when it comes to measuring the value of social investment to the organisation beyond 'good PR', with an average score of just 3%.

The top 10 highest-scoring companies identified in Disclosures on Social Investment are:

  • ANZ (67%)
  • Westpac (62%)
  • GPT Group (60%)
  • NAB (54%)
  • AMP (53%)
  • BHP Billiton (47%)
  • Woodside Petroleum (45%)
  • Qantas Airways (41%)
  • Lihir Gold Ltd (35%)
  • Santos (35%)
