ACCA elects new president

Brendan Murtagh is global president for 2009-10

21 May 2009

ACCA has elected Brendan Murtagh as president for 2009-10 at its AGM on 21 May.

Murtagh, an assurance partner with Dublin practice LHM Casey McGrath, has 20 years of relevant experience in advising clients in the small and medium-sized business sector. His experience also includes the areas of insolvency, corporate consultancy and litigation support.

Speaking about his election as president, Murtagh said: 'I am honoured to be elected president of ACCA and look forward to working with my colleagues to represent the needs of our members around the world in the year ahead. We will be focusing on the importance of accountants for business during the year, and the vital role they have to play in helping businesses recover and thrive.'

His initial participation with ACCA was through the Leinster Members Network and the Irish Practice Network. He became involved in the work of ACCA Ireland at Executive Committee level, serving as president of ACCA Ireland from 2002–03. He was elected to ACCA's governing Council in 2000, having completed his second three-year term in May 2006, and also serves on several ACCA committees at both national and global level.

Also at the AGM, Mark Gold, a partner at London-based chartered certified practice Silver Levene, became deputy president, while Dean Westcott, finance director and deputy chief executive of West Essex Primary Care Trust, became vice-president.
